STRENGTHENING THE FIGHT AGAINST COUNTERFEIT GOODS: DOMNERN SOMGIAT & BOONMA’S TRAINING EVENT IN BANGKOK

On 8 August 2023 Domnern Somgiat & Boonma organized an event in Bangkok to train 86 representatives from the Customs Department, the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Royal Thai Police’s Economic Crime Division (ECD), and the Royal Thai Police’s Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) to identify counterfeit goods of a number of world-famous brands. Twelve brand owners, namely Acushnet Company, Andrea Stihl AG & Co. KG, Calvin Klein, Inc., JT International SA, Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer Studios, Inc., Patagonia, Inc., The Polo/Ralph Lauren Company, L.P., PUMA SE, Shimano, Inc., Stussy, Inc., Western Digital, and Johnson & Johnson participated in the event. Photographs taken during the event are shown below.

The purposes of the event were to provide guidance on differentiating counterfeit products from genuine ones to the authorities involved in combating IP piracy, to hi-light the brands of the participating brand owners, and to emphasize the brand owners’ commitment to safeguarding their brands in Thailand.

With our extensive experience in handling IP piracy cases and our good connections with the government agencies involved in combating IP piracy, we are committed to organizing events of this nature on a yearly basis.
