LAW UPDATE: 24 October 2023

DESTRUCTION OF IP-INFRINGING GOODS
BY THAI CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT

On September 21, 2023, Domnern Somgiat & Boonma, represented by Nutthakarn Phongphunpunya, participated in an event organized by the Thai Customs Department in which approximately 680,000 IP-infringing items were destroyed. Their value was estimated to be THB 66,540,000 (approximately USD 2,000,000). Some of the goods were displayed before the participating representatives of IP owners and the press and all were later destroyed by crushing with a steam-roller or transported to a power plant to be incinerated. This event affirms the Thai Customs Department’s commitment to actively combat IP infringement by eliminating counterfeit goods from circulation.
