DESTRUCTION CEREMONY HELD BY RELEVANT THAI IP AUTHORITIES: MORE THAN 1.5 MILLION COUNTERFEITS DESTROYED

On 5 September 2025, the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), the Customs Department, the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), and several other government agencies jointly held the Destruction Ceremony of Intellectual Property Infringing Goods

The ceremony was presided over by Minister of Commerce Jatuporn Buruspat and DIP Director-General Nusara Kanjanakul, and attended by IP owners, IP agents, diplomats from several embassies, and members of the press.

A total of 1,528,524 counterfeit items, valued at over THB 900,000,000, were destructed at the main ceremony in Bangkok and two other industrial destruction facilities. A large portion of the seized goods was displayed and initially destroyed using cutting tools, shredding machines, and a bulldozer, before being transported to an industrial incinerator for final disposal.

The Minister emphasized that public authorities and right holders are working closely to suppress IP infringements in both online and offline channels. The destruction of infringing goods is a critical mechanism to ensure that these illegal products would not return to the market. This would enhance transparency in compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) obligations and environmental standards aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As legal representatives for multiple affected brands, Domnern Somgiat & Boonma (DS&B) participated in the ceremony, witnessing the destruction of counterfeit goods that infringed our clients’ IP rights.
