On 10 September 2026, the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), the Customs Department, the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), and several other government agencies jointly held the Destruction Ceremony of Intellectual Property Infringing Goods. Organized on an annual basis, this year’s ceremony was presided over by the Vice Minister for Commerce, Piyanuch Wuttisorn, and the DIP Director-General, Auramon Supthaweethum, and was attended by IP owners, IP agents, diplomats from several embassies, and members of the press.

More than 2 million infringing goods, valued at over THB 2,100 million, were destroyed at the main ceremony in Bangkok and two other industrial destruction facilities. A large portion of the seized goods was displayed and initially destroyed using cutting tools, shredding machines, and a bulldozer, before being transported to an industrial incinerator for final disposal. These goods are from a wide variety of business fields, including fashion products, food, electronic, automotive, healthcare products, and entertainment.

The key theme addressed by the Vice Minister for Commerce is that the government is serious in combating against these infringing goods. Commencing with the integration of various authorities and the private sector, progressive campaigns to combat these crimes are being conducted. These procedures have been carried out in a transparent manner, where all infringing goods shall be eventually destroyed, preventing them from being returned to the market. This should ensure that obligations under WIPO treaties are fulfilled, and that business partners, investors, and IP owners are assured that all rights are fully protected and enforced.
