DS&B SHARES EXPERTISE AT TPAS ANNUAL DINNER TALK & NEW YEAR PARTY

Thai Patent Agents Society (TPAS) hosted its annual ‘Dinner Talk & New Year Party’ in Bangkok, offering a perfect blend of insightful discussions, professional networking, and festive celebration. Against the stunning backdrop of the Chao Phraya River, the event brought together approximately 100 patent professionals, academics, and government officials to exchange ideas on Thailand’s evolving patent landscape.

Domnern Somgiat & Boonma was honored to take part in this vibrant gathering. Our delegation included partners Chakrapat Mongkolsit and Juthatip Vejsureeyakul, Senior Litigator Chalermphong Jitkuntivong, and our team of scientists, engineers, and attorneys actively engaging in the discussions. Our partner Prabjote Busdee also presided in her capacity as President of TPAS.

“The TPAS Dinner Talk serves as a platform where law meets innovation. It is not just about policies—it’s about connecting professionals who shape the future of patent protection in Thailand,” shared Prabjote Busdee, President of TPAS.

This year’s event was particularly significant as it explored proposed amendments to the Thai Patent Act currently in process. Our partner Juthatip Vejsureeyakul and other speakers analyzed the potential legislative changes and provided valuable insights into how they might reshape patent protection strategies in Thailand.

Another notable highlight was the analysis of the ‘Pang Cha’ case, which was examined from multiple expert perspectives, offering attendees a comprehensive understanding of its implications for patent practice.

The informal setting fostered high levels of audience engagement. Experts offered comments and different perspectives. Attendees also engaged in forward-looking discussions about potential areas for development in Thailand’s patent law and practice, identifying gaps and opportunities for enhancement.

For nearly 80 years, DS&B has been woven into the fabric of Thailand’s IP landscape, serving as ‘Pioneers,’ establishing protection before it became a global priority; ‘Settlers,’ shaping the nation’s IP laws and practices to meet modern challenges; and ‘Explorers,’ constantly innovating to meet emerging challenges of clients from diverse industries. Events like the TPAS New Year Party remind us that while providing excellent client service remains central to our mission, our responsibility to help develop IP law, practice, and the patent profession in Thailand is equally important. By engaging with colleagues in these informal settings, we contribute to a vibrant IP ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders in Thailand’s innovation landscape. For us, being part of the IP community is more than business.

We congratulate TPAS which, despite its young age, has quickly become a vital force in Thailand’s patent community. DS&B is proud to support its continued growth as an essential platform for patent professionals.
